Be On Your Guard
There is an old saying, “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”
2 Peter 2
Pray for revival with open eyes knowing what the consequences are likely to be.
There is an old saying, “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.” It is born out of the fact that often when people get something they want it has consequences they didn’t expect. Satan promised that if Eve ate the fruit her eyes would be opened, and she would know the difference between good and evil. Well, she ate and her eyes were opened! But then came the unexpected consequences.
Our denomination, and indeed many Christians are praying for revival in Australia. I’m praying for revival in our neighbourhood and amongst the carers at Clifford house. It would be wonderful to see the Holy Spirit move through these communities and people come to faith.
Now…I have read the stories of lots of revivals and some of the associated events. It’s easy to smile at stories of Welsh pit ponies not knowing what to do because miners no longer swore. But there are stories of people who don’t know church culture doing and saying things that offend. If God brings people from the lower socio-economic and fringes of our community to faith, then there will be noise, inappropriate clothing, probably swearing, smoking and some lack of social graces. Some of these things we let the Holy Spirit deal with and some things we will gently lead and guide.
Also, in every revival there is increased activity from the enemy. One particular area is false teachers trying to lead the new Christian astray. Some false teachers operate out of ignorance and some are true wolves in sheep’s clothing.
I’m not trying to put you off praying for revival. Just the opposite. Pray for revival with open eyes knowing what the consequences are likely to be.
