Bearing the World's Sorrows

As we look at the world around us, broken and suffering as the disease of sin ravages all of creation, we can still know hope.

Isaiah 53

“For he bore the sins of many, and made intercession of the transgressors” (53:12c)

I remember as a young Christian reading the Suffering Servant in Isaiah 52:13-53:12.

I was amazed at the clarity of the prophetic description of Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross. Written around 700 years before Jesus, the power of the blood, the cost for our sin as a lamb to the slaughter, the picture of his righteousness, and the priestly role are all present in this prophecy.

He bore the world’s sorrows and so we often refer to Jesus as a ‘man of sorrows’, and familiar with suffering” (53:3a).

“For he bore the sins of many, and made intercession of the transgressors” (53:12c)

As we look at the world around us, broken and suffering as the disease of sin ravages all of creation, we can still know hope. Jesus’ eternal presence reminds us of forgiveness, restoration with our Father, welcome into His family, and the renewal of all, a New Heaven and New Earth.

Today, I pray you might not be overwhelmed by the world’s sorrows, but hold onto this truth—the Man of Sorrows poured out his life unto death, took on our sin, rose from the dead and won! Put your trust in Jesus Christ who lives and invites you to know him.

God bless

Pastor Stephen
