Crossing the Street: Meeting the People Where They Are

This week, we look at the story of Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman where she was – at a well...

John 4:13-14

Let’s ask God to bring us into contact with whom he has been preparing to meet us, so that we can be links in the chain that brings them new life and refreshment.

Glenda and I have enjoyed meeting people in our cul-de-sac for the past 3.5 years. We met many at the Boxing Day “bring your Christmas leftovers” afternoon teas organised by two of the wives. Some of these were held in our carport. Over time, we’ve been able to contribute in some ways to our little street community - by having a “Christmas Carols in the Court” during Covid, by delivering little Easter gifts, and especially by taking time to hear their stories and share ours. Others at the Church have built bridges to neighbours and workmates, using what God has given them.

Some are regularly sharing God’s word with them. Each week, we all meet people where they are – next door, across the street, at work, at play, at our place of study, at the shops or the service station. For most of us, the people we meet don’t know Jesus personally. Many of them have not heard the good news of Jesus in an understandable way.

This week, we look at the story of Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman where she was – at a well (John 4). And he helped her to move on to a future she never dreamed of when she started out from home in the middle of that day to fetch water from the well. od to bring us into contact with whom he has been preparing to meet us, so that we can be links in the chain that brings them new life and refreshment (vs.13-14).
