Glory to God in the Highest

And on the night of Jesus’ birth, the night sky was lit with an angelic throng, praising God...

Luke 2:1-21

May your Christmas be an opportunity to join with this mighty chorus of voices to announce Jesus.

I remember that with the birth of each of our children, I had a list of those I needed to contact with the news. It was in the days before mobile phones, so I had to have enough change for the pay phone to call my parents and Kathryn’s. I remember the great joy each time as I shared with them the announcement of our children coming into the world.

The announcement of Jesus’ coming, however, tops them all. It was centuries in the making. The prophets throughout the Old Testament announced a coming Messiah. Zechariah and Elizabeth had an angel announce that their miracle child in their old age would be the one to make way for the coming of the Lord. An angel visited Mary and announced she would carry the Son of the Most High. An Angel in a dream spoke to Joseph that the child Mary was carrying was Jesus, the one who would save his people from their sins. Immanuel, God with us.

And on the night of Jesus’ birth, the night sky was lit with an angelic throng, praising God, and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests”. (Luke 2:14 NIV)

May your Christmas be an opportunity to join with this mighty chorus of voices to announce Jesus. That the Saviour has come and for each of us who know him, we have been saved, restored, and enveloped into the eternal family of God. Let us announce this hope and invite others to know Immanuel, God with us.

May you have a blessed Christmas as you share time with friends, family and those around you.
