God Provides for a Single Mum

What has happened when you’ve faced difficult circumstances? Perhaps you’re facing some right now.

2 Kings 4:1-7

"Just you” is enough when God is in the picture.

Being a single Mum is tough. Trying to pay off your ex-husband’s debt as well is worse. This week we look at the story of a godly woman whose husband, a kind of apprentice prophet, had died leaving her with debts that were unpaid.

The weight of the debt fell on the shoulders of his widow - a mother with two sons. There was no way she could repay the creditor. Now the creditor was saying he would take her two sons as slaves to pay what was owing.

What could she do? What has happened when you’ve faced difficult circumstances? Perhaps you’re facing some right now. You may be thinking, “I’m just little me. I don’t have the means to fix my situation.”

The woman in our story was “just” a single Mum with two at-risk kids. She “just” had a very small amount of oil, nowhere near enough. But God used her, her boys, and that bit of oil to do what was needed.

God is like that. He cares, and he provides. And sometimes he uses seemingly little things and apparent nobodies to do things that are quite special.

So this week, try focussing on what you do have, not what you don’t have. Consciously give yourself with all your limitations, your family and your belongings to God and ask him to do something special with ‘just’ you, as you are.

“Just you” is enough when God is in the picture. Thank him now for what he is going to do in and through you, whatever your circumstances.
