Jesus is Coming

There’s a lot of things I don’t know. There’s a lot of things that I once thought I knew but now admit I don’t know. But here is one thing I am pretty sure of – Jesus is coming back.

Luke 21:27-28

May we continue to faithfully serve our Lord as we await his return.

When Jesus told his disciples that the temple of Jerusalem was going to be destroyed and that “not one stone would be left on another” (Luke 21:6), his prediction seemed very unlikely. There was no immediate military threat to Jerusalem, and the stones were massive – tons and tons in weight. Then, only 37 or so years later, the Roman Army under the command of Titus laid siege to Jerusalem. They destroyed the Temple, tossing all of the stones down. They levelled Jerusalem to the ground, and slayed all of the inhabitants.

Jesus was accurate about the destruction of the temple, and in the same discourse he declared that he would come again:

“At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:27-28)

I don’t know when Jesus will return, no one does. Since he’s been gone so long it may begin to feel like he’s never coming back. But I do know that Jesus knows what he is talking about – as so I know that he certainly is coming back. May we continue to faithfully serve our Lord as we await his return.
