Making disciples - who follow Jesus
Today we start a series looking at three lenses through which we understand making a disciple from Mark 1:17.

Mark 1:17
And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” (ESV)
Some of us are really great DIY people—we can make things in the shed, in the kitchen, in the garden or the workplace. But God has given us a role with him. In the great commission, Jesus asks his disciples and “Go, and make disciples of all nations” and he goes on to give some aspects to that— baptising, teaching them to obey all I have commanded, and to hold to the promise of his presence with us always.
As a church family, making disciples is part of our vision and mission statements both in the ’sowing and growing the Good News of Christ’ and ’make disciples who multiply’.
Today we start a series looking at three lenses through which we understand making a disciple from Mark 1:17.
And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” (ESV)
As disciples we are to Follow Jesus, Be made (transformed) by Jesus, and Join Jesus on mission.
Now Jesus, when he made this invitation to Andrew and Peter, it was a call to disciple making to follow Jesus and into community. A group of twelve, seventy and more as the ministry grew. And the path of making disciples is an eternal path— always learning and walking in the presence of our Lord.
So, over the next three weeks, I encourage you as we reflect on these three aspects of “Making disciples” to ask yourself these three questions:
1. How was I made into a disciple in the past? (Give thanks).
2. How am I continuing to be made as a disciple? (Be open).
3. Who is Jesus asking me to come alongside in their process of being made into a disciple? (Take a step).
God bless
