Pentecost Sunday: Revival - Prayer, Fasting & Courage

As I have read about revivals over the years, there seems to be this pattern: a decay in the world and in God’s people where God is pushed out of our lives. A hardness of heart is seen.

Acts 13:2-3

The message had spread from Jerusalem to them, but now it is about to explode across the known world.

As I have read about revivals over the years, there seems to be this pattern: a decay in the world and in God’s people where God is pushed out of our lives. A hardness of heart is seen.

But a faithful group of God’s people remain focused, loving and courageous in the midst of hardship, persecution, and darkness. They call out to God because they are convinced that there is no other way forward without the breaking in of God’s Spirit. And when it comes, it comes in great sweeps of change, transformation, and wonders.

In our passage today (Acts 13:2-3), the church at Antioch had been experiencing this revival move of God in their own city. The message had spread from Jerusalem to them, but now it is about to explode across the known world.

While they (prophets and teachers of the church at Antioch) were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said ’set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

In prayer and worship, fasting and listening, this church family took the courageous step of releasing their pastors / teachers to work with the Lord to bring revival across the known world.

As we spend time seeking revival this week in prayer and fasting (maybe for some), in worship and waiting upon the Lord, be faith-filled, courageous, generous, and obedient to the Lord.

God bless
