Seek God and Live

I wonder what gives you life? What fills the tank of joy? What gives fulfilment and hope? What gives you a sense of purpose?

Amos 5

God’s heart is for relationship with us, His creation. So He is always calling us back to Him.

In our ongoing journey through the book of Amos, in the midst of God’s judgments against Israel for their disobedience, injustice, idol worship and rebellion, God gives these clarion cries:

This is what the Lord says to Israel: “Seek me and live” (Amos 5:4 NIV)

"Seek the Lord and live” (Amos 5:6 NIV)

“Seek good not evil, that you may live” (Amos 5:14 NIV)

These calls remind me of Jesus’ words.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matt 7:7 NIV)

Jesus said….. “ I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25 NIV)

“I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6 NIV)

God’s heart is for relationship with us, his creation. So he is always calling us back to him. To seek in this verse is about restoration— finding the right way, an answer that is found in the person of God. It is to seek the Lord, a coming back to our purpose and created order. As we do this, we live. Justice, righteousness, identity, freedom, hope and love are outcomes of living in God.

For me to seek God and live, has been a revolution. I have found my Saviour, my Lord and Shepherd who speaks to me, guides me, and lifts me up when I have fallen. I have found forgiveness and new life in his family. He has opened my eyes to his love and compassion as I have travelled with people in life. He has shown me and continues to show me areas of my life that need healing, forgiveness and realignment to his will so that I might do good to others. I have peace about death and eternity because of his promises. He helps with my fears about life and the future. He has blessed me with relationships. And I have been able to share this Good News with others and see them seek the Lord and Live. Will you seek the Lord and live today? He extends an invitation. Come.

God bless.
