The Faithful Ordinary: Huldah - 'Courage Leading to Repentance'

Writer's picture: Ps StephenPs Stephen

God is inviting you today to be responsive to Him.

2 Kings 22:14-20 & 2 Chron 34:22-28

God is receptive to a humble and responsive heart.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been watching video reflections of the Asbury Awakening in a small-town University in the USA in 2023. Over 16 days, God moved among the students, faculty, the town, and others who came to experience this move of God. Things that marked this awakening was a hunger of God, a getting right with God through confession and repentance, and an obedience to Christ. Many of the testimonies talked about surrendering to God and seeking Him.

In 2 Kings 22 and 2 Chronicles 34, we read the story of King Josiah of Judah. A young King who did right in the eyes of the Lord. At 26, as he was directed the restoration of the temple, the book of the Law (probably Deuteronomy) was found and read to the King. His response to God’s Word is immediate. In shame and repentance, he tore his robes and sends his emissaries to Huldah the prophetess to enquire of the Lord what this means for himself and the nation.

Huldah hears from the Lord and speaks with authority and courage God’s word. Judgement would come because of the nation’s disobedience but for him, the way of repentance leads to peace with God (2 Kings 22:19-20 “because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people…..I have heard you”.

God is receptive to a humble and responsive heart. Josiah led his people in a time of re-dedication back to God which transformed them across his reign as King.

God today is looking for responsive and humble hearts. The story of Asbury Awakening in 2023 is a recent story of God’s restoration as these students were responsive to his Spirit in repentance and obedience.

God is inviting you today to be responsive to Him. To be courageous and speak his Word like a Huldah and to surrender and be obedient like Josiah.

God bless.
