The Greatest Love Story

Have you ever thought of your life being a message?

Hosea 1-3

We reject, abandon, and do life our way, yet God pursues us with the greatest love and gift of forgiveness and reconciliation through His son Jesus.

I wonder what message your life would be to others.

God seems to place great emphasis on “being His message” - “you will be my witnesses” is not just what we say or do, but our very lives communicating something of faith and experience of love with our Lord.

The story of Hosea and Gomer is a dramatic, powerful, and painful reminder of a life being a witness of love, forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration.

In chapter one, God tells Hosea the prophet to marry Gomer, a woman who is unfaithful and promiscuous. Why would God want Hosea to do this? What about God’s reputation? What about Hosea’s reputation?

They have children who are given names that remind the people of Israel of their disobedience to God and his rejection and judgment—not loved and not my people.

Gomer finally leaves Hosea. But in chapter 3 God tells Hosea to find her, redeem her and take her back. Hosea’s life was a story of rejection, pain, and experiencing unfaithfulness and abandonment. I’m sure we might think that Hosea should have just give up on Gomer. To let her reap the pain of her poor decisions. Yet his love doesn’t abandon her. God tells him she is worth redeeming.

It is the story of the gospel. We reject, abandon, and do life our way. Yet God pursues us with the greatest love and gift of forgiveness and reconciliation through his son Jesus. We were all worth redeeming as Jesus was nailed to the cross. It is that love that he invites us to know in Christ, to find security in his family, and to live that love message with others.

God bless
