The Lion Roars
God roars, his power and authority is unrivalled and demands attention. It exposes evil and brings judgment against sin. Dare we ignore his voice? Yet we do. We walk our own way.
Amos 1-3
The Lion is roaring, declaring his judgment against evil and injustice. He is roaring, calling us to come home to him. How do you respond today?
I remember when our children were young, the movie series of the Chronicles of Narnia came to the big screen. The books were written by C.S. Lewis and the main character, the Lion Aslan, brings about salvation. The story is inspired by Christ’s story. Aslan is slain by evil, but he is resurrected, and his authority and power is seen as he stands and roars. Those that see and hear him quake at his might.
In the Book of Amos, the prophet, a simple shepherd, is called by God to declare God’s might and judgment over the nations, particularly Israel. The picture of God right from the start is compelling, as Amos declares God's word.
He said; “The LORD roars from Zion and thunders from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds dry up, and the top of Carmel withers.” ( Amos 1: 2-3 NIV)
Who is roaring?
The lion has roared—who will not fear? The Sovereign LORD has spoken– who can but prophesy?” (3:8 NIV)
God roars, his power and authority is unrivalled and demands attention. It exposes evil and brings judgment against sin. Dare we ignore his voice? Yet we do. We walk our own way.
God’s word through Amos is clear, we are all accountable before God with our lives and our actions. He sees all and nothing is hidden from his gaze. From every nation to every individual.
Yet he is also a God who saves and he reminds Israel that he brought them out of Egypt to a promised land. (Amos 3:10). The Lion is roaring, declaring his judgment against evil and injustice. He is roaring, calling us to come home to him. How do you respond today? I employ you, come to God and find life.
God Bless
