The Promised Restoration
As Christmas is rapidly approaching, I start to hear people saying they just want to get through the Christmas period and then have a break. A rest. Or maybe you’ve heard people say, “2024 has been an awful year, but I’m hoping for a better one in 2025”
Amos 9:11-15
We all need hope. We all need something to look forward to. We all need something that helps us get out of bed and go on believing for a better day.
In Amos, after eight and a half chapters of judgment and charges against Israel primarily and also the surrounding nations, the last few verses of chapter 9 seem like a breaking in of hope and promise. These are words of restoration. God, in his love, will always be against evil, but always promises a way of restoration. Ultimately, that is why Jesus came.
Listen to the words of hope God speaks through Amos
In that day, I will restore David’s fallen shelter—I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins—and I will rebuild it as it used to be, so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name, declares the LORD, who will do these things. (Amos 9:11-12)
The nation of Israel within 30 years of these judgments was overrun by the Assyrian and people taken into exile. How those in exiles would have held onto these words of promise from Amos. God always fulfills his promises.
Maybe today you are in need to hear his promises.
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
“I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deut 31:8 and Heb 13:5)
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:3)
I leave you with these words of hope from Revelation 22:20-21 of Christ’s return.
He (Jesus) who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
Let God restore your mind and heart today with his promises.
God bless.
