This is Love: #4 Loved Easter 2025

This Easter, let us remember His love that takes hold of you and me as his children.

John 19:14-20:18

"HE DID IT FOR ME"

Darlene Zschech, pastor, singer, and song writer, tells a story of God’s revelation to her during her battle with cancer. She had questions of God about her cancer, frustrations that it happened to her. Where was God’s love? So, she turned to the Scriptures, meditated on them and Jesus’ resurrection life.

Then, one day when returning from cancer treatment, a truth hit her like a wave. Darlene knew that the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter made a way for all of creation to return to God. But a truth struck her deeply and personally. She turned to her husband and cried out “HE DID IT FOR ME!”

Yes, Jesus died for all, but she knew in her spirit in that moment that it was also very personal—Jesus died and rose again for her.

1 John 3:16 (NIV) “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”

Darlene knew that God loved her because Jesus “did it for her.” He conquered the power of sin and death. She was walking through her cancer battle, but he was with her, and he loved her. This was not a punishment. She was his child. And his love would conquer all things so that nothing could separate her from the love of God for all eternity.

This Easter, let us remember His love that takes hold of you and me as his children. And as His love has been poured out on us and in us, so we lay down our lives and love others. We join with Jesus, to live and love as he did. This Easter, let us share his love and message to those around us.
