Who does mission? Your mission field starts here……

Maybe your idea of mission is this—it is my responsibility to convince people that they need to follow Jesus. It’s up to me to save them otherwise they will go to hell. Maybe in your mind it is so overwhelming that you can’t live up to that responsibility.

Let me help us understand mission— it starts from knowing God’s love for us, and that love empowering us to share about Jesus because others need that love as well. Jesus does the saving. Jesus does the converting. The Spirit empowers us and works on people’s hearts to surrender their lives to Christ. And he has asked us to partner with him to love and connect the people around us to him.

Mel Downes writes: Mission is for everyone who follows Jesus. It’s not just for pastors, intercultural team members, or church leaders. Every believer is called to participate. Jesus sends His followers into the world to be His ambassadors, representing His love and truth wherever they go. Whether young or old, rich or poor, skilled or learning. God uses each person in unique ways to share His message and care for others. Mission includes those who share the Gospel in words, those who serve by meeting practical needs and those who support through prayer and encouragement. Simply put, anyone willing to say, “here I am, send me” can be part of God’s mission.

To be honest, you have already been on mission. Your witness is making a difference. The Mission Challenge is encouraging us to be more intentional, prayerful, and bold in that witness.

“You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8b)

Let’s be authentic and real in that witness for Christ in the world—starting here where you are planted.
