Have you ever thought you would like to have a one-on-one conversation with Jesus to get some answers to questions?

John 3:1-21

It is both encouraging and challenging to realise that Jesus knows people through and through, and he knows our deepest desires and needs.

Nicodemus didn’t just think about it. He made a meeting with Jesus happen (John 3:1-16). Jesus’ miracles motivated Nicodemus to see Jesus personally. And he seemed to start well with perhaps flattering words recognising Jesus as a teacher from God.

However, Jesus who knew – and knows – what’s in people (John: 2:25) threw the learned local leader off-balance by his response. Jesus talked about being born again and the mysterious, invisible-but-real work of God’s Spirit. Nicodemus seemed more confused than when he came.

Maybe we, like Nicodemus, wish we could understand some things better. It is both encouraging and challenging to realise that Jesus knows people through and through, and he knows our deepest desires and needs.

And for us, as for Nicodemus, there is good news. John 3:16 says:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Wow! God loves us, he gave his Son for us, and he offers us life with him forever. Today, Jesus gently but clearly invites us to trust in Him and in his death for us. In this new relationship with him, we will understand some things and we will learn to trust him for the rest. And we get to have many one-on-one conversations with him.
