Seek His Face

Ever been in a situation where you are walking into something entirely new, with crowds of people you don’t know, and you are fearful and unsure?

Psalm 27
When we seek His face, we look into the eyes of Jesus, the face set with determination, love and promise.
You begin to look around, hoping for a familiar face. Then, across the room there is someone you know, and the anxiety and fears vanish. You walk over, smile at each other, and you once again feel connected. There is someone you can now share the journey with, work through the questions and uncertainties. A burden shared is so much lighter.
In Psalm 27, David is surrounded with fears, evil men, enemies, foes, and false witnesses. Even with the threat of war, he finds confidence in the LORD. The only fear that he acknowledges is that the LORD would turn and hide his face from him. But his words reflect his trust in the faithfulness of God, so he waits upon him.
Twice in this lament psalm, he talks about seeking the Lord:
“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. (v4 NIV)
“My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord I will seek.” (v8 NIV)
Like the person in the crowded, unfamiliar situation, full of fears and uncertainty, David is seeking the familiar face who can bring hope and certainty. He is seeking the LORD. The LORD’s eyes that display strength, certainty, compassion, courage, and insight. The smile that dispels hopelessness and fear. The face set with determination and love.
When we seek His face, we look into the eyes of Jesus, the face set with determination, love and promise.
We can look to him as we pray, from his Word and promises, as His Spirit speaks into our spirit, and as he uses his people to walk with us.
Whatever you are facing today, decide to seek Jesus’ face. Stop and look at Him. And believe he is with you. And like David, be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
God bless.
