Our second Song of Ascent, helps us with the often asked question of life, “Where is God?”

Psalm 121
God doesn’t get bored walking with you, he doesn’t get distracted by other world events and forgets you, he doesn’t get blinded by evil forces who seek to attack. He feels your pain and distress.
As the pilgrims went up to Jerusalem, and as we Christians walk through the daily struggles, decisions and seasons of life we ask, “Where does my help come from?”
For the ancient people of Israel and surrounding nations, help came by looking to the mountains. To pagan temples, rituals, priests, chants and spirits. The lure to find a quick fix, to feel better, to escape pain and know happiness. We can relate to these things as a lure in our own life. Someone to make the decision for us, someone, or something to take away the pain. These quick fixes never really solve the problems and often lead us to more pain and hopelessness—addictions, debt, poor advice, broken relationships, emotional pain, fear and hopelessness.
In this song, this psalm is promise and hope. Not that we won’t experience pain, death, grief, suffering, and struggles, but that we have someone with us who knows us, knows pain, and provides what we need to persevere till glory. My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:2) He holds us secure, he guards us from evil, he watches over us both now and forever more.
God doesn’t get bored walking with you, he doesn’t get distracted by other world events and forgets you, he doesn’t get blinded by evil forces who seek to attack. He feels your pain and distress. Reach out and know his provision. Hold to faith and to his promises. Believe in who he is, our shade at our right hand. And know this in your experience now and into his presence.
As I’ve walked alongside of people across the years who have struggled, and walked my own path of struggles, what continues to amaze and strengthen me is this—our help comes from the Lord and He never lets us down. I pray you know and hold to that truth today.
God Bless
Pastor Stephen
