The Big Reveal: Jesus in Revelation

Revelation talks about terribly difficult times. But it also talks about Jesus who reigns and ultimately wins, ushering in his eternal kingdom in all its fullness.

No one, including earthly rulers and spiritual enemies, can ultimately stand against Jesus.

At Lang Park (Suncorp Stadium) is a statue of Wally Lewis, a Rugby League player who was called ‘the King’. He often ruled on the field, especially in state of origin games. In a tight spot, Queenslanders wanted him more than anyone to get his hands on the ball.

King Charles, of course, is a real king. He is the monarch not of a football field but of nations including Australia. However, his powers are mostly indirect and persuasive rather than direct and strong.

In biblical times, the power of kings was different. They ruled absolutely, governing their people, leading their soldiers and driving judicial processes. Any questioning of their words or actions was at the risk of one’s life.

Then, there is Jesus, whom the book of Revelation describes as the King of kings. He has all power and has been given all authority. He leads even into spiritual war. He will return as the judge before whom everyone in the world will have to answer.

No one, including earthly rulers and spiritual enemies, can ultimately stand against Jesus. He is paradoxically the Lion of the kingly tribe of Judah because he lived and died as the Lamb of God.
