Repent and get the compass pointing back to Christ. Do a course correction and align yourselves with the gospel.

Revelation 2 & 3

Scripture reminds us that we are to be like that modelling clay, soft and pliable in the hands of our God, the potter.

As a child, one of the things that Mum would often get for me when I was sick and staying home from school was plasticine (modelling clay). I would play for hours making cars, planes, tanks, people and whatever else would take my imagination. At the end of the day, Mum would put it into a container, and it would be ready the next day to use again, soft and pliable.

Scripture reminds us that we are to be like that modelling clay, soft and pliable in the hands of our God, the Potter.

Isaiah 64:8 But now, the LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you our potter; and we all are the work of your hand.

This is not just true for us individually, but also for his people, the church. As we have been reflecting on repentance over the last few weeks, we are reminded in Revelation 2 and 3 that his church is also his clay, the work of his hands.

To the church at Ephesus, he declares:

You have persevered and have endured hardship for my name and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: you have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place (Rev 2:3-5).

Like individuals, church families can drift away from Christ. For the church family at Ephesus, they had lost their first love and passion for Christ. Maybe they became comfortable and allowed other teachings to draw them away from Jesus. The consequence from this verse is that God’s presence (lampstand) is in danger of being removed by God. The plea of God, repent and get the compass pointing back to Christ. Do a course correction and align yourselves with the gospel.

This is a call to us at Stafford Heights Baptist—let us remain soft and pliable, listen to his Word and Spirit, and loving God and others with all our hearts.

God bless.

Pastor Stephen
