BMA May Mission Month - What's Love Look Like

Baptist Mission Australia, (BMA), is seeking to bring God’s love to life – everyday in every place!

At the heart of mission is God’s love. A God who loves all people – everyday in every place! And we’re graciously invited to bring this love to life, across the street and around the world. “We love because God first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

Our BMA Project for this year is to support the work in Malawi through Cipula Camwenye Ltd. In 2024 Malawi was ranked as the seventh poorest country in the world. Around 70% of the population lives on less than AUD $3.20 per day, and most people depend on subsistence agriculture to survive. As part of our team’s work among the Yawo people, we not only want to share the good news of Jesus but we also want to help break this cycle of poverty. Gainful employment helps restore people’s dignity and the sense of self-worth that comes with financial independence. Baptist Mission Australia is in the early stages of establishing a partnership with a local entity Cipula Camwenye. We are excited to support this not-for-profit organisation that enables Yawo locals to become business owners and increase employment opportunities through several initiatives across the community.

The locally run entity acts as a business incubator through which Yawo locals can be supported to become business owners, and to create opportunities for ongoing employment for a wider section of the Yawo community. It’s exciting to see a children’s day care and coffee shop established. The enterprises work in partnership with our team in Mangochi and money generated from the initiatives supports local faith leaders to share the good news of Jesus in their communities. As we support this project, we empower, upskill, break poverty and sow into faith development and mission.
