We Need the Word

Why is it so important to spend time in Scripture? Let me put it simply—without it you die!

Matt 5:17-20

It is not a book written with human wisdom, but it is the very spoken Word of God.

I remember as a young Christian being told how important it was to read and meditate on the Bible. An older school student and I used to meet early before school to read Scripture and talk about what we were learning. I remember a few years later while at Uni being invited by a SU Camp leader to help him write Bible Studies for a camp. I got involved in a young adult’s bible study and also the Christian Fellowship group at QIT where we would take time to study God’s Word. My old second-hand Good News Bible that I received when I became a Christian was getting a good work out.

Why is it so important to spend time in Scripture? Let me put it simply—without it you die!

Jesus in the sermon on the mount corrects the Pharisees and others who use God’s Word for their own arguments or justification. He challenges Biblical knowledge without transformation. It is not a book written with human wisdom, but it is the very spoken Word of God.

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Low or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished,”

(Matt 5:17-18).

All of Scripture points to and is embodied in Jesus. He is the story of creation, salvation, and restoration. He is the beginning and the end. Without Scripture in your life, you don’t have the voice of Jesus, the power of Jesus, nor the growing likeness of Jesus transforming you. God’s Word is a gift, the spoken revelation of Christ for us. Jesus saw it had essential. Let us do the same so that we might grow and live as his children.

God bless.

Faith Shown in Our Action

Part of the core beliefs that we Protestants believe in, is that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone. James 1:22-2:26 If we are saved by grace then the natural outworking of our salvation
