Where does your confidence come from?

Psalm 27:13-14
Today, put your confidence in the LORD, wait on his action, and look for his outcomes. He is worthy of your trust and faith.
As a child I was very shy, so my parents decided to send me off with my sisters to a local drama club that met in a hall in Aspley. I think I may have been 8 or 9 years old at the time. My only recollection was being on stage wearing my green tree frog costume and jumping around on cue. My parents thought that this experience at the drama club would boost my confidence.
Confidence is a funny thing. Even after many years of public speaking, playing in bands, and leading events, my confidence can change depending on how I feel, what stresses I’m under, who might be watching, the content of what I need to communicate, the impact of a decision I’m sharing, and so on. My confidence is not necessarily a constant. Even confidence in family, friends, financial security, job security and national security can all change in a moment. But we all look for something or someone to be confident in—a rock upon which to stand.
In Psalm 27, David shares of where he finds his confidence. It is in the Lord. When faced with fears, attack, even if his mother and father abandons him, the Lord will receive him.
Where does your confidence come from? If it is from yourself, from others, or from authorities, they will all fail at some point. Family and friends will disappoint and let you down. Jobs, finances and governments don’t give 100% security. David in this Psalm declares with the utmost certainty, that the Lord is where his confidence sits. Who the Lord is, his unchanging nature and promises, and David’s experience with the Lord all culminate in his strong assertion,
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. (Psalm 27 :13-14 NIV)
Out of that well of truth, he faced his fears, enemies, even death with confidence.
Today, put your confidence in the LORD, wait on his action, and look for his outcomes. He is worthy of your trust and faith. And you will see his goodness in the fullness of time.
God bless.
