The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom

'What does it mean to fear the Lord?' and 'How can we know the Holy One and grow in our understanding of Him?'

Proverbs 9:10
When we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness we are laying the best foundation for our lives.
Have you ever heard the song, ‘I did it my way’, by Frank Sinatra? Amazingly, it still holds the record for the most weeks spent in the UK Top 40 singles chart, staying for 75 weeks.
For many it has become an anthem for people to live life their way and on their terms. I’ll do my thing, you do yours. But when large numbers of people choose to do only what’s right in their own eyes it can lead to disastrous consequences both individually and on a national level.
Without God as our compass, we will naturally seek out worldly knowledge and human wisdom to make sense of ourselves and the world. But as Proverbs 14:12 soberingly reminds us, there is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.
Being wise in our own eyes isn’t wisdom at all but foolishness according to the Bible (1 Cor 3:19). Rather, true wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord.
Proverbs 9:10 says, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
When we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness we are laying the best foundation for our lives.
God Bless
Pastor Gwenda
